A
Fall Read I really enjoy
reading historical fiction that is based upon the real-life experiences of a family member of the author or set in a locale
most familiar to him/her--like his/her hometown, for example. Knowing there is the personal touch makes for a much more intimate,
enjoyable read.
Such is the case of The Aftermath by Rhidian Brook, a British author who has based his first novel upon the post-WWII experiences of his paternal grandfather
who assisted with the reparations of Germany prior to the building of the Berlin Wall. Despite its fixation on the horrors
of the, well, aftermath of war, this is a very interesting and enlightening read, as well as being an in-depth
study of familial love and betrayal.
I was privileged to read an electronic advanced copy of The Aftermath last month and wrote a review of it for www.authorexposure.com. Please follow the link to read my comments. I am sure you will agree that it will be a great addition to your
fall reading list.
And may you enjoy this glorious pre-autumn weather.
